Ron D. Moody was born July 1, 1952, in Dallas County, Texas. He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he was a student of noted artist, Professor Roger Winter and received his B.F.A. degree from S.M.U. in 1973. He later studied at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where he received his M.A. degree in painting and drawing in 1975, and his M.F.A. degree in 1976. He returned to Dallas where he continued his postmodern expressionist works, often signing his works with only his initials, until illness forced him to stop painting in the mid-1980s, and he passed away in 2013. His works are in private collections across Texas.
