#1762 Antique Korean Brass-Mounted Tansu Chest
An exceptional example of fine Korean cabinetry, this mid-20th century tansu chest is distinguished by its richly figured elmwood and ornate, hand-etched solid brass hardware. The symmetrical brass mounts—featuring traditional Korean symbols of longevity, fortune, and protection—add a luminous contrast to the warm natural patina of the wood.
The upper cabinet opens to reveal smaller interior drawers and shelving, ideal for storing personal objects or linens, while the lower drawers offer generous concealed storage. The circular brass lock plate and detailed corner fittings exemplify the meticulous metalwork that defines traditional Korean design.
Good vintage condition with some minor surface imperfections (see photos for detail).
